This site started the way most good (and slightly chaotic) ideas do — five years ago, at our kitchen table, way too late at night, after the kids were finally asleep. Searching for the perfect curriculum, if there is such a thing. We were deep in fifteen browser tabs, three Facebook groups, and a pile of curriculum samples we weren’t sure we trusted. Someone swore by it. A blog post said it changed their kid’s life. A YouTube review felt suspiciously like an ad. And all we really wanted to know was: will this actually work for my kid?
That question is the whole reason The Modern Schooler exists.
What we’re building
A free, searchable home for honest curriculum reviews from real homeschool families — filtered by the stuff that actually matters to you. Worldview. Teaching approach. How much prep it takes. Whether it works for a kid who needs extra support, or one who needs a lot more challenge. No vague marketing labels, no guessing games — just real information from real families.
What we’re not
A curriculum fair. A sponsored blog. A place where publishers can pay to look better than they are. We’re not affiliated with anyone we review, and every rating comes from a family who’s actually used the thing.
Where things stand right now
We’ll be honest: we’re just getting started! Our first curriculum listings are going live, with real family reviews arriving right behind them. This is a launch, not a finished product, and we’re genuinely excited to build it out in real time — with you, not just for you.
