About Math Mammoth

Math Mammoth was created by Maria Miller, a math teacher who built the entire curriculum as affordable, parent-light PDF downloads. The Light Blue Series is the complete curriculum (grades 1-8), organized by grade level with two worktexts per year — instruction and practice in the same book, so no separate teacher’s manual is needed. Each grade covers 8-10 chapters organized by topic, with a strong emphasis on conceptual understanding, mental math, and number sense rather than rote memorization.

The Blue Series is a separate library of standalone topical worktexts — fractions, decimals, multiplication, long division, and more — that families buy individually to fill gaps or review specific concepts, independent of grade level. Math Mammoth is most commonly downloaded as a PDF and printed at home, keeping the cost well below most comparable programs. Printed copies are also available through Rainbow Resource and other retailers.

Why Families Choose It

Genuinely Affordable

One of the least expensive complete math programs available, period.

Self-Teaching Format

Instruction and practice in one book — no teacher’s manual needed.

Gap-Filling Blue Series

Standalone topical worktexts let families target specific weak spots.

What Families Love

  • Genuinely affordable — one of the least expensive complete math programs available.
  • Self-teaching worktext format means the parent doesn’t need to be a math expert.
  • Strong conceptual foundation — explains the “why” behind procedures, not just rote drill.
  • Blue Series topical worktexts are an excellent, affordable option for filling specific gaps.
  • PDF license covers the whole household — print as many copies as you need.

Things to Consider

  • Worksheet-heavy format — not a fit for kids who need hands-on manipulatives or video-based instruction.
  • Tops out at grade 8 — families will need another program for high school math.
  • Can move quickly for struggling learners — best paired with a manipulative or video supplement for kids who need more support.
  • Answer key is a separate download — not included in the student worktext itself.
