Primary Arts of Language (PAL) is IEW’s K-2 reading and writing program, based on Anna Ingham’s Blended Sound-Sight method. It’s designed as two complementary components: the Reading program teaches phonics and sight words through games and engaging activities, while the Writing program (divided into printing, copy work, and composition) reinforces those same skills using an early, age-appropriate version of IEW’s Structure and Style approach.
Families typically start with the Reading program, then gradually add in Writing once a student is ready. The two can be purchased together as a discounted package or separately. The program is also noted as useful for English Language Learners (ELL) and children with learning disabilities.
Best for families wanting to introduce reading and writing together from the start, and for families already planning to use IEW’s core Structure and Style method later on.
Builds both skills side by side rather than teaching them separately.
Introduces IEW’s core method in an age-appropriate way from the start.
Noted as useful for English Language Learners and children with learning disabilities.
