First Form Latin, also written by Cheryl Lowe, is designed as the entry point for older beginners — grades 5 and up — or as the natural next step for students who’ve completed Latina Christiana. It takes a “grammar-first” approach, focusing on memorizing forms and vocabulary before moving into more complex translation and syntax, based on the idea that all beginners, regardless of age, benefit from that same slow, systematic foundation.
By the end of the course, students will know the six indicative active tenses of the first two verb conjugations, five noun declensions, and 185 vocabulary words — recognized as equivalent to one year of high school foreign language credit. The Complete Set includes a student text, workbook, quizzes and tests, teacher’s manual, pronunciation audio, and flashcards, with over 100,000 students reported to have used the First Form series.
