AoPS is built for kids who are already strong at math and want to go deeper. Rather than teaching a method and then assigning practice problems, each lesson opens with a problem the student hasn’t been shown how to solve yet, then builds the concept out of their attempts to crack it.
Families can use the print textbooks independently, or enroll in AoPS’s live online school, where an instructor teaches the same material in real time with structured homework and grading. AoPS is also the publisher behind Beast Academy, their elementary math line — many families move directly from Beast Academy into AoPS once a child is ready for middle school-level material.
Best for kids who already like math and want more challenge — particularly those headed toward MATHCOUNTS, AMC, or other competition math, or who found a traditional program too slow. A natural next step for Beast Academy graduates.
Goes well beyond grade-level standards into real problem-solving and reasoning.
Widely used by students who go on to place in national math competitions.
Works as a standalone book curriculum or with live class support.
