About Abeka

Abeka is published by Abeka Book, LLC, whose parent company is Pensacola Christian College — founded by Arlin and Rebekah “Beka” Horton. It’s designed as a complete, all-in-one curriculum, with cross-subject integration and frequent review built in from a Baptist perspective.

Families can buy a discounted full-grade kit covering every core subject, or split it apart and purchase individual subjects separately — many veteran homeschoolers use Abeka for just one or two subjects (commonly math or phonics) while sourcing the rest of their curriculum elsewhere. Families can also teach from the books directly, or use Abeka Academy’s video lessons, where a teacher delivers each subject on screen.

Best for structured, school-at-home families with a Christian worldview who want either a complete, done-for-you system, or the flexibility to pull just the pieces they need.

Why Families Choose It

Complete K-12 Path

One publisher covers every subject from PreK through graduation — or split it apart by subject.

Video School Option

Abeka Academy lets a teacher deliver lessons on screen.

Rigorous Academics

Known for a demanding pace and thorough skill-building.

What Families Love

  • Covers every subject, every grade, from one publisher, but can be split by subject if you only need part of it.
  • Video school option available if you’d rather not teach every lesson yourself.
  • Well-established program with strong homeschool community support.
  • Known for producing strong, confident readers early on (phonics).

Things to Consider

  • Faith-based content, Baptist tradition (published by Abeka Book, LLC, whose parent is Pensacola Christian College — an Independent Baptist, nondenominational institution).
  • Bible Translations Used: KJV (exclusively).
  • Presents a Young Earth timeline — does not teach evolution.
  • History materials present America’s founding and history within an explicitly Christian framework.
  • Lessons are scripted with little room to adjust the pace or approach.
  • Higher price point, especially with video school.
